The details
How it works and what to expect
How it works
- Add the product photos you want to convert.
- Pick the edge size, how the photo fits and the background colour.
- Choose the output format and download your square images.
Fit
- Pad — the whole photo is kept and sits centered on the background.
- Crop — the photo fills the square by centre-cropping, nothing is distorted.
- Auto — squares pad, wide images crop, whichever looks natural.
Privacy
Square product images are made entirely in your browser. The photos are decoded on this device and never uploaded or transmitted anywhere.
Practical guidance
Using this tool well
When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.
Why use it
Storefront grids, category tiles and marketplace listings are square by default, and photos rarely are. Squaring deliberately — by padding or by cropping — keeps the whole product visible and the grid tidy.
Typical situations
- Your product photos are 4:3 but the store tile is 1:1.
- A batch needs consistent framing before uploading.
- A listing preview crops oddly because the source shape varies.
Common problems
Padding left visible bands
Padding preserves everything but shows the fill colour. Choose crop when the subject is safely inside the centre of the frame.
Cropping cut off part of the product
Switch to padding, or reshoot with more space around the item. The tool never invents the missing area.
Square output is still too large in bytes
Follow with compression if the marketplace also imposes a file size limit.
Check before you submit
- Confirm the output is exactly square.
- Compare against the original to be sure nothing essential was cropped.
- Check the file size against the marketplace limit.
