The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Upload a photo or signature on an even, plain backdrop.
  2. Select the backdrop colour (common presets or a custom hex).
  3. Adjust tolerance and feather until the halo disappears in the preview.
  4. Download the transparent PNG.

Best results

Even lighting and a high-contrast backdrop give the cleanest transparency. Colour keys work on pixels, so the foreground should not contain large areas of the same colour as the backdrop.

Privacy

The image never leaves your device.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

A cut-out has to stay a cut-out wherever it is placed — a signature over a form field, a logo over a photo, a product over a coloured banner. PNG output preserves that; a flattened format cannot.

Typical situations

  • A signature needs to sit over text without a white box around it.
  • A product image should float on any page colour.
  • You need a graphic asset reusable across light and dark layouts.

Common problems

  • The output is saved as JPEG and the background comes back

Transparency requires PNG (or WebP). Keep PNG when the transparent area is the whole point.

  • Parts of the subject became transparent too

The tool removes the backdrop it detects. Retry with a clearer separation between subject and background, or start from a cleaner photo.

  • Halos remain around the edges

Traces of the old background survive at the boundary. A source photo with even lighting around the subject reduces this noticeably.

Check before you submit

  1. Place the result over a dark colour and inspect the edges.
  2. Confirm the file is PNG and reports an alpha channel.
  3. Check small details — fingers, hair, thin lines — survived the removal.
