The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Upload a photo whose backdrop is a fairly even colour (white, gray, blue, green…).
  2. Pick that backdrop colour — the tool offers common choices plus a custom hex colour.
  3. Adjust tolerance so every pixel of the wall is covered, and feather to soften the hairline.
  4. Watch the live preview, then download the result.

What it does and doesn't do

This is a colour-key: pixels close to the chosen colour become white. It works best on even, bright backdrops. It is not an AI cut-out — busy backgrounds or strong shadows may need a second pass or manual editing.

Privacy

The image is processed locally and never uploaded.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

Marketplaces, ID slots and product grids assume a clean white backdrop. Rebuilding that backdrop from a chosen colour is far quicker than masking a subject by hand for every image.

Typical situations

  • Product photos were shot against an off-white or cream wall.
  • An ID slot or form expects a white background behind the portrait.
  • A batch of images needs a consistent backdrop before publishing.

Common problems

  • Similar colours were replaced too

The tool replaces the backdrop colour you choose. If the subject contains the same tone, refine the selection — the original is never modified, so you can retry safely.

  • Edges look harsh against white

A photo with soft, fuzzy edges (hair, fabric) will show the transition. Start from a shot with a clearly separated subject for best results.

  • It does not recolour the subject

Only the backdrop is replaced. Lighting on the subject stays exactly as captured.

Check before you submit

  1. Zoom into the edges where the subject meets the new background.
  2. Check no parts of the subject were replaced along with the backdrop.
  3. Confirm the output format suits the destination (JPEG for portals, PNG if transparency is needed elsewhere).
