The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Add your PDF — any number of pages is fine.
  2. Pick the final page size (A5 is the classic booklet size), the binding side and the inside margin.
  3. Optionally let pages rotate 90° when that fits them larger.
  4. Click Create booklet PDF and download the imposed sheets — one sheet per folded page, two book pages per side.

What you get

The output PDF is exactly the paper width and height you chose, printed double-wide (two book pages side by side). The page count is padded to a multiple of four, so the last printed sheet may carry one or two blank halves. Fold each sheet along the middle, stack the folded sheets in order and staple the spine to read page 1 to the end.

Reading order

The classic saddle-stitch pairing is used: the outer sheet shows the cover and the last page on its front face, then page 2 and the second-to-last on its back, and so on toward the middle sheet. With left binding the pages read left-to-right; choose right binding for right-to-left reading (Hebrew, Arabic).

Limits

  • Per-file limit of 100 MB.
  • Password-protected PDFs are not supported and will show an error.
  • Booklets are built logically, not re-rasterised: pages keep their text and sharpness.

Privacy

Booklet PDF runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, and the imposed booklet is created on this device. Nothing in this tool transfers your files over the network.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

A booklet you print yourself needs pages in imposition order — the second half of the sheet before the first — which nobody sorts by hand. The tool re-imposes the pages and keeps text and vectors efficient.

Typical situations

  • You want to print a short document as a folded, stapled booklet.
  • A PDF must become a programme, zine or small manual.
  • Sheets need to run in reading order once folded.

Common problems

  • The booklet will not open because of a password

Encrypted PDFs are refused as soon as they are added, so imposition never starts. Unlock the file in your reader — or print it to a new PDF where permissions allow — and add that copy instead.

  • Page count is not a multiple of four

Sheets carry four booklet pages each, so padding is added to reach a multiple. Check where the blank lands so it does not interrupt content.

  • I printed single-sided and the order broke

Print double-sided using the short-edge (flip on short side) setting, then fold in the middle. Single-sided printing cannot produce a working booklet.

  • Text looks too small after imposition

Two pages share one sheet, so each is half size. If legibility matters more than the booklet format, print pages normally instead.

Check before you submit

  1. Fold one printed set and read it through in order.
  2. Confirm the page order before printing the full run.
  3. Check duplex settings on the printer dialog.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Does Booklet PDF rasterise my pages?

No — it re-imposes the existing PDF pages (2 per physical sheet) and keeps them efficient. Text and vectors stay intact.

How do I print the booklet?

Print the output double-sided and fold the sheets in the middle. Use the 'flip short side' duplex setting on most printers.
