The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Add your PDF.
  2. Pick the paper and orientation, then set how many pages fit per sheet (columns × rows, up to 9 × 9).
  3. Set the margin and the gap between cells, and choose whether landscape pages may rotate to fit larger.
  4. Click Create print layout PDF and download the re-imposed document — one sheet per page.

How pages are placed

Every source page is placed exactly once, in its original order. Cells fill left-to-right then top-to-bottom, and when a grid is full the next page starts a new sheet — so the final sheet may be only partly filled. Pages are placed logically, never re-rasterised, keeping all text and images sharp.

Good uses

  • Handouts and study notes: several document pages to a side.
  • Draft reviews on paper instead of a screen.
  • 2-up slides from a presentation export.

Limits

  • Per-file limit of 100 MB.
  • Password-protected PDFs are not supported and will show an error.
  • Layout is a pure re-imposition — pages are never cropped or scaled other than to fit their cell.

Privacy

Multiple Pages per Sheet runs entirely in your browser. Your file is never uploaded, and the print layout is created on this device. Nothing in this tool transfers your files over the network.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

Reviewing or distributing a long document often does not need one page per sheet. Multiple pages per sheet cuts paper and ink while keeping every page in its original order.

Typical situations

  • You are reviewing a long document and want it condensed.
  • Handouts must fit on fewer sheets.
  • Pages are thumbnails for a physical proof.

Common problems

  • The PDF is rejected as password-protected

Placing several pages on one sheet means reading every source page, which an encrypted document will not allow. Unlock it in your reader first, then add the unlocked copy.

  • Pages are too small to read

Readability falls as cells increase. Two or three per sheet is usually the practical ceiling for text documents.

  • Order looks wrong across the sheet

Pages fill the grid in the document's own order, row by row. Confirm with the preview before printing double-sided.

  • Grid does not divide evenly into the page count

The final sheet will have empty cells. That is expected — print it anyway or extract the last group if it matters.

Check before you submit

  1. Confirm the grid and paper size in the preview.
  2. Check the first and last pages landed in the positions you expect.
  3. Print a single sheet as a test before committing the whole document.
