12 digits — the 13th check digit is added automatically. Spaces and dashes are ignored.

A clean white-barred EAN-13 as a PNG, sized for product labels and packaging. Made in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Enter the 12-digit product code (or a full 13-digit one).
  2. Set the bar width and height and choose whether digits appear below.
  3. Create the barcode and download the PNG.

Check digit

EAN-13 numbers always end in a check digit. Give the tool 12 digits and it computes the 13th automatically; give it 13 and it verifies the last digit for you. The encoded number is shown under the bars when you opt in.

Tips

  • Keep the quiet zone (the white border) so scanners work reliably.
  • Larger module widths make small labels scannable — try 3 or 4 px.
  • Print at high quality; blurry bars fail to scan.

Privacy

The barcode is drawn entirely on this device. The code you type is never sent anywhere.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

Retail listings and inventory systems expect a scannable EAN-13. Generating a clean PNG with the correct check digit avoids a barcode that scans as an error at the till.

Typical situations

  • You are listing a product and need its EAN-13 image.
  • Labels are being printed for stock control.
  • A barcode generated elsewhere will not scan.

Common problems

  • The number was rejected as invalid

EAN-13 is twelve digits plus a computed check digit. The tool calculates the check digit for you — enter the first twelve digits and let it finish the code.

  • The barcode will not scan in print

Scanning depends on contrast, size and quiet zones. Print it large enough for the scanner and keep it black on white.

  • The code is not registered to your product

Generating an image does not assign the number. Numbers come from GS1 or your platform's scheme — the tool renders whatever code you supply.

Check before you submit

  1. Scan the printed barcode with a phone or scanner before applying labels.
  2. Confirm the digits match your registered product code.
  3. Keep the PNG at a size that retains crisp bars.
