Downloads a skus.txt file with one SKU per line, ready to paste into your spreadsheet or upload tool. All generated locally.

The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Enter category, product and optional variant codes.
  2. Add a prefix, sequence start and the number of SKUs to generate.
  3. Check the preview, then download skus.txt with one SKU per line.

Pattern

Every SKU follows [prefix]CATEGORY-PRODUCT[-VARIANT]-NNN (or -NNNNH for wider sequences). Codes are normalised to letters, digits and dashes, so what you download is uniform — no stray spaces or special characters.

Privacy

SKUs are generated locally on this device. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

SKUs are internal identifiers — they should follow a rule, not be invented per product as you go. Generating a full set with one pattern keeps the catalogue sortable from the first item.

Typical situations

  • You are setting up a product range with no naming convention yet.
  • Existing SKUs are inconsistent and you are reissuing them.
  • A spreadsheet needs a column of codes ready to paste.

Common problems

  • The pattern is too short to be unique

Add a counter or a category segment. A pattern that repeats is not an identifier.

  • Codes clash with existing ones

Check the generated set against your current list before adopting it — the tool cannot see your inventory.

  • The scheme is hard to read later

A SKU should be interpretable by a person. Include enough structure (category, size) that a colleague can guess what it refers to.

Check before you submit

  1. Confirm every code in the set is unique.
  2. Test the pattern on your least common product type.
  3. Paste into your spreadsheet and verify nothing is truncated.
