The details

How it works and what to expect

How it works

  1. Add the files you want to rename.
  2. Set a prefix, suffix, counter and an optional find-and-replace.
  3. Check the live preview, then download the renamed copies.

Pattern

Each new name is [prefix][base][suffix]-NNN (if the counter is on). The original file bytes are untouched, so nothing is corrupted — you download fresh copies with the new names. Files that end up with the same name get a numeric suffix automatically.

Privacy

Renaming is local and lossless: your files stay on this device and their contents are never changed or uploaded.

Practical guidance

Using this tool well

When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.

Why use it

Consistent filenames make catalogues, uploads and backups manageable. Renaming a whole batch with one pattern is the difference between a sortable folder and a pile of camera-generated names.

Typical situations

  • A folder of product photos carries names like IMG_4821.
  • Files must be numbered in a specific order before upload.
  • Old names need a find-and-replace across a batch.

Common problems

  • The new names collide

A pattern without a counter produces duplicates, and duplicates overwrite each other in most systems. Include a counter or the SKU when names repeat.

  • Order is not what I expected

Sequence follows the order the files were added. Check the preview list before applying anything.

  • I renamed the wrong files

Originals on disk are never modified — the tool works on copies it prepares for download. Re-run with the correct pattern if needed.

Check before you submit

  1. Scan the preview for duplicates.
  2. Confirm the numbering matches your intended order.
  3. Check extensions are preserved for every file.
