The natural next step
The details
How it works and what to expect
How it works
- Add the PDF you want to split.
- Pick a mode: one PDF per page, or custom page ranges.
- For custom ranges, enter groups like
1-3, 5, 7-9(pages are 1-based). - Click Split. Each group becomes its own PDF, ready to download individually or as a ZIP.
Understanding page ranges
- A single page:
5. - A range:
1-3means pages 1, 2 and 3. - Several groups, separated by commas:
1-3, 5, 7-9. - Every group follows the original page order; overlapping groups are allowed.
Limits
- Per-file limit of 100 MB.
- Password-protected PDFs are not supported and will show an error.
- When split output contains many files, it is delivered as a ZIP download.
Privacy
Split PDF runs entirely in your browser. Your file is not uploaded to any server, and every split document is created on this device. Nothing in this tool transfers your files over the network.
Practical guidance
Using this tool well
When it is the right answer, what tends to go wrong, and what to check before you rely on the result.
Why use it
Large documents often need to travel in pieces — one chapter, one form, one invoice. Splitting produces genuinely separate files rather than a manual re-scan of selected pages.
Typical situations
- You must submit only certain pages of a long PDF.
- A document is too large to email and needs dividing.
- One PDF contains several forms that must go to different people.
Common problems
The file is refused as password-protected
Splitting reads the whole document before producing any range, and an encrypted PDF cannot be read here at all. Save an unlocked copy from your reader, then split that one.
Page ranges did not include what I expected
Ranges are inclusive and one-based. Read the summary of what will be produced before downloading — every range becomes its own file.
I produced one file per page by accident
The one-file-per-page mode is separate from custom ranges. Choose the mode deliberately before running.
The output is still large
Splitting copies pages as they are; it does not recompress them. Use PDF-to-images plus compression if the bytes themselves are the problem.
Check before you submit
- Open each produced file and confirm it holds the pages you meant.
- Confirm page order inside each piece is unchanged.
- Name the pieces before uploading them anywhere.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Can I split by page ranges?
Yes. Simply specify ranges like '1-3, 5, 8-' and the tool produces separate PDFs for each range.
Does splitting work with 100 MB files?
Yes, within the per-file limit, although large files take longer because everything runs locally.
Is the original file modified?
No. Your original is never modified; each split range is saved as a new PDF.
